Summary
Ferrari North America, Inc. (Ferrari) is recalling certain 2017-2019 GTC4Lusso and 2018-2019 GTC4Lusso T vehicles. Tension on the door lock mechanism may result in the vehicle’s door being unable to be opened by using the external door handle.
Remedy
Ferrari will notify owners, and dealers will install new door locks and cables, free of charge. The recall began June 25, 2019. Owners may contact Ferrari customer service at 1-201-816-2668. Ferrari’s number for this recall is 67.

Dear Ferrari Dealer:
Ferrari has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in MY 2017, 2018 and 2019 GTC4Lusso from VIN 221042 to VIN 242412 and MY 2018 and 2019 GTC4Lusso T vehicles from VIN 227525 to VIN 242426.
We want to assure you that our clients’ safety is our priority, and we are committed to correcting this condition in their vehicles.
The current layout of the Bowden cable creates tension on the door lock mechanism which may cause the cable retaining slot to break and prevent the door from being opened when using the external handle.
The solution involves the installation of new door locks including new Bowden cables with a different length and layout on both doors for all of the affected vehicles
This is necessary to guarantee that the door can be opened using the external handle.
IMPORTANT
Ferrari will be notifying ALL affected MY 2017, 2018 and 2019 GTC4Lusso, and MY 2018 and 2019 GTC4Lusso T vehicle owners with two separate letters. The first notice will inform the customer about the recall and let them know that parts are currently unavailable. A second letter will be sent when the parts are available. At that time, the customer can schedule to replace the fuel vapor separator, free of charge.

You must order the necessary kit for each vehicle. Upon transmittal of the repair under the normal warranty system, we will reimburse you for the labor necessary to carry out this campaign.
It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect is remedied.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS
Please read all instructions before performing this campaign.
The RECALL CAMPAIGN procedure described herein must be performed precisely as indicated in the following instructions:
The repair, which applies to both the driver side and the passenger side doors, involves (Fig. 1 and 2):
- Replacing the cable with a longer one (50 mm longer);
- Making the cable layout fool proof with a bracket fastened to the pawl housing;
- Replacing the door lock
The procedure below describes what should be done on one door. The steps to follow are the same for both doors.
- Remove the door panel (as described in paragraph 09 “Removing door panels” in the Workshop Manual);
- Remove the rear waterproof liner sheet (A) – Fig.3;
- Detach the end of the Bowden cable on the external handle side (B, Fig.4) and door lock side (C, Fig.5);
- Using the existing fastening for the pawl housing, fit the bracket (D), and tighten the nut to a torque of 2 Nm, class B – (Fig. 6 and 7).
Note: Note that, in order to show the correct position of the bracket, the pawl housing is not shown in Figures 6 and 8.
- Replace the door lock (as described in paragraph E3.09 step “Replacing the door lock” in the Workshop Manual);
- Attach the Bowden cable on the external handle side (E) and the door lock side (F), and pass it through the bracket (D) which has previously been installed – (Fig. 8). Note: the bracket does not restrain the Bowden cable but guides its lay-out when the external handle is used.
- Replace the rear waterproof liner sheet (A) with a new one – Fig.9;
- Refit the door panel (as described in paragraph E3.09 “Refitting door panels” in the Workshop Manual);

Ferrari has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2018-2019 GTC4Lusso and GTC4Lusso T vehicles. The vehicles involved are equipped with a door lock mechanism whose cable length is insufficient. This may cause the retaining slot to break, preventing the exterior door handle from operating. If a door cannot be opened with the external handle in the case of an emergency, it can increase the risk of injury for the driver or passengers. We want to assure you that your safety is our priority, and we are committed to correcting this condition in your vehicle.
Our records show that you are the owner of a vehicle affected by this recall.
IMPORTANT – CONTACT YOUR DEALER TODAY
Ferrari will repair your vehicle for free. The repair involves installing new door locks with an improved cable layout. The replacement part is not yet available, but is expected to become available within 45 days. Please contact your Ferrari dealer at this time and make an appointment to have this repair performed. The time needed for this repair is estimated at 2.5 hours.
