Description of the Cause : Nonconformity of the turbocharger oil delivery pipes with the Ferrari technical drawing requirements, as the pipes have been found with a notch on their external surface and reduced thickness. In particular, the oil pressure warning light appeared in the instrument panel, along with the display of a message of limited engine performance. Oil leakage was also noticed. Ferrari immediately began an investigation of the issue and initially detected a notch on the oil delivery pipe, also in July 2023. After further investigations carried out between August and September 2023, an additional defect was found on the same oil delivery pipe related to its thickness, which did not conform with the specifications indicated in Ferrari’s technical drawing. Based on production records, it was found that the potentially affected parts were installed in vehicles manufactured between November 2022 and September 2023. Ferrari immediately instructed the supplier to take corrective measures in order to deliver parts conforming with Ferrari technical drawing requirements, while Ferrari’s investigations continued. On October 10, 2023, Ferrari concluded its investigations after relevant testing did not show any failure replicating the condition observed in the preproduction vehicle. However, as a precautionary measure, on October 12, 2023, Ferrari decided to launch a recall campaign to remedy this Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-698 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 potential issue and notify NHTSA accordingly. For the recall, Ferrari shall replace the nonconforming turbocharger oil delivery pipes with conforming ones. Ferrari determined that no warranty claims have been submitted for this issue. Furthermore, Ferrari has had no reports of any fires, incidents and/or deaths as a consequence of this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The repair consists of replacing the nonconforming turbocharger oil delivery pipes installed on the SF90 model with new conforming ones. Ferrari will send a notice letter to all affected vehicle owners to warn them of this issue, and instruct them 1) to contact an authorized Ferrari dealer to schedule the free recall repair, and 2) in the meantime, request them not to use the vehicles. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The new turbocharger oil delivery pipes will conform to Ferrari technical drawing requirements, without notches on the external surface and with the appropriate thickness. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : All SF90 vehicles currently in production have been fitted with conforming turbocharger oil delivery pipes starting from September 20, 2023. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : A notification letter will be sent to all known current owners of the affected vehicles advising them to contact an authorized Ferrari dealer to schedule an appointment to have the recall work performed and, in the meantime, requesting them not to use the vehicles.
